Unit 3: Dev Team
Design it. Build it. Ship it.
You've been moved to the Dev Team. Every product this studio ships starts with a design doc, gets tested by real players, and goes out with a brand and a trailer. Yours too.
Over the next six weeks, your team will pitch a product idea, build it together (each person creates their own playable piece), brand it, make a trailer, and publish it live on your portfolio.
Pick Your Track
Your product doesn't have to be a game. Pick what you'd actually play, read, or explore — not what sounds easiest.
Play
platformer, top-down adventure, puzzle, escape room, arcade
Story
interactive fiction, visual novel, interactive comic
Explore
quiz/trivia, interactive explainer or simulation, virtual tour or exhibit, digital toy or music maker
Everything is built in GDevelop. Everyone does the Platformer Boot Camp first — whatever your track.
How Teams Work
Your team shares one concept, art style, brand, poster, and trailer. Each person builds their own playable piece — a level, chapter, room, or round of the shared world.
| Role | Owns |
|---|---|
| Creative Director | The design doc. Keeps the team consistent with what was agreed. |
| Art Lead | Art style, shared asset folder, credits list |
| Sound Lead | Shared sounds and music, licensing check |
| Marketing Lead | Coordinates poster and trailer |
In a team of 2–3, people double up. Everyone builds.
Unit Sequence
| Lesson | What you make | Checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 3.1 Design Doc | Team design doc and concept pitch | Greenlight meeting: a 3-minute pitch, signed-off doc |
| 3.2 Platformer Boot Camp | Personal playable platformer | Player moves, jumps, collides, and reaches an end goal |
| 3.3 Build It | Individual playable build | Three gates: First Playable → Playtested → Content Complete |
| 3.4 Brand Kit & Poster | Brand sheet and 11×17 poster | Poster meets the spec checklist |
| 3.5 Trailer | 30–60 second video | Trailer exported at 720p MP4 and plays |
| 3.6 Ship It | Live project page on your portfolio | Live URL check: it plays in a browser on a different computer |
Getting Published
In 3.6 you export your build as HTML5, add it to your username.github.io GitHub repo, and create a project page on your portfolio. Once you post the live URL to Teams, your game is playable from your own site.
Late Join / Catch-Up
