1.1 Welcome to the Studio
Welcome to the studio — starting today, you're a new hire. This class runs like a small game studio with four departments, and Unit 1 is your onboarding: getting set up, meeting the team, and learning how we work before you build anything.
The Four Departments
- IT Onboarding (now) — getting set up, meeting the team
- Web Dept — building the studio's online presence
- Dev Team — designing and shipping a project: a game, app, or interactive story, your choice
- Innovation Lab — what else the studio can build, and our responsibility as tech creators

Employee Handbook — Our Three Expectations
- Respect — for the space, for each other, and for your own work.
- Accountability — most days are work time, not lecture; deadlines and self-management are on you.
- Independence — troubleshoot first (course site, notes, a neighbour) before flagging your teacher down.
Get Set Up
- Log into your Windows PC.
- Find and bookmark the course site: code.codemathbike.ca/ict9.
- Locate or create your student folder for the semester.
- Join the class Team, and Like today's post.
- Use the join code to access the ICT 9 Team.
Today's Task — New Hire ID Card
Every new hire gets an ID card. This is your first hands-on tool (Canva) and your first artifact for the studio wall — a get-to-know-you activity, not a graded assignment.
Due: start of next class (Lesson 1.2). Finishing it tonight is your first small test of the Accountability expectation above.

Required Fields

Steps
- Log into Canva.
- Search for an "Employee ID Badge" or "ID Card" template — use a template that is Portrait orientation and looks professional.
- Fill in all the required fields above.
- Swap in your photo or avatar.
- Export as PNG or PDF.
- Submit to the Teams assignment by the start of next class.
