Overview
This is a self-paced WebQuest on computer hardware and basic troubleshooting, finishing with an image-formatting task and exporting your work as a PDF.
Your WebQuest starts by downloading the 1.3 Know Your Computer file, found in Teams → Shared → Class Materials on the class Teams page.
When the file opens Create a Copy → Create a Copy Online and make sure you save it to your own OneDrive folder. Then work through the WebQuest, following the instructions in the document.
Parts of a Computer — Matching Game
Match each part to its name and its function — pick one tile from each column. A correct trio locks in green; a wrong guess just clears so you can try again. Work through all 4 rounds, then take a screenshot of your finished round to paste into your WebQuest document.

Quick Reference
Everything for this WebQuest is saved in the same place:
OneDrive → Grade 8 → ICT 8 → 1. Essential Skills
File naming: 1.3_KnowYourComputer_[YourName] — for both your .docx and your .pdf.
Troubleshooting Quick Reference
- Monitor won't turn on: check the power cable at both ends; check the monitor's own power button (separate from the tower); check whether the tower itself is on (fan noise, lights).
- Computer is frozen: try Ctrl+Alt+Delete first to close the stuck program; if that doesn't work, hold the power button 5–10 seconds to force a restart, then turn it back on.
- When to ask for help: after trying the steps above, or any time you're unsure whether something is safe to try — ask a teacher right away rather than keep experimenting.
Bookmark this — it's useful all year, not just this lesson.
