Unit 4 — Independent / Specialization Project
A project you pitch and pursue yourself, from a specialization menu: a game (text-based or simple graphical), a GUI app, a simple web app, data visualization, or hardware/microcontroller. Studio time is almost entirely independent now — weekly sprint standups replace the earlier checkpoint rhythm, and I shift into an "office hours" role: circulating and running pull-aside clinics rather than whole-group instruction.
What You'll Be Doing
Writing a full, student-authored project contract — problem, users, constraints, success criteria — and tracking sprint-based checkpoints on a Kanban board.
If you're moving faster, it's the same contract and sprint structure at a higher technical bar, plus at least one formal mentoring session with a partner during the project. You may also branch into a second language for this project, as evidence that the skills you've built here transfer.
What You'll Produce
A proposal contract, sprint checkpoints along the way, and a user-tested build.
